First I took a bowl and placed in it, 1 cup of oatmeal and 1 cup of water. (The oatmeal was regular, not instant / quick, but I don't think that would have mattered). I stirred it, microwaved it for 2 mins. then stirred again.
I then took 3 jars of meat baby food. I used the 2 1/2 oz. sized jars of Ham and Ham gravy.
I stirred the meat into the oatmeal. I mixed it and placed it into my food processor to mix.
After I let the processor mix the ingredients, I added 6 cups of flour. These were added 1 cup at a time. I used regular all purpose flour, but I am sure that whole wheat flour could also be used.
I made sure to mix the flour in one cup at a time. After adding the 5th cup I needed to take out 1/2 of the dough and mix in 1/2 cup of the flour into the half remaining in the bowl. I then repeated with the 2nd half of the dough.
I then rolled out the dough to about 1/4" thick and cut out approximately 2" heart shaped dog treats.
These were then placed on an ungreased cookie sheet.
This recipe made 76 dog cookies. These baked in a 325 degree F. oven for 35 mins. or until golden brown.
They were then transferred to a rack to cool.
Of course the dogs needed to try them after they were cooled!
As you can see, no foil, paper, or grease was needed.
Three cookies for our 3 dogs, who are waiting patiently.
Good Doggies!
Kallie, the Newfoundland
Buddy, the rescued Golden Retriever
Durango, the rescued Black Lab wanna-be
await their cookies.
Durango got his cookie first.
Buddy catching his cookie.
Kallie showing us what she thought of the cookies!
Just checking to make sure no crumbs were missed! I would have to say that they totally enjoyed their cookies and followed me around for quite awhile hoping that I would let them taste test some more, (which they did!)
